Olive oil – An oil that’s essential to maintaining good health, it’s also beneficial in killing ear mites and halting their reproduction cycle, as well. However, if you’d prefer to use almond oil, it’s effective in this case too.

To make the proper treatment, use 400 IU of vitamin E oil, and mix it with 1/2 ounce of olive or almond oil. The solution will be administered through an eye dropper, so it needs to be room temperature to avoid a physical freak out by your furry companion. Make sure the canals are thoroughly cleansed by using cotton swabs doused with the mixture – repeat this every other day for 6 days, then give the ears a rest. When you resume on the 7th day, use the same “every other day” schedule, but this time for a total of 6 weeks, in order to eventually stop the reproduction cycle of the pests.

Yellow dock root extract and water – This is a very effective way to combat mites. You mix 9 drops of the extract, with one tablespoon of water, and make sure it’s room temperature before you apply the 1/2 dropper-full of solution into the ears. Keep in mind that because mite eggs are tough to kill – especially in regards to most of the home treatments – you must do this every other day for a number of weeks before stopping. As with the olive oil, repeated application to the’s ears will eventually put a stop to the mite’s reproduction cycle.

Mite control with shampoo – Since mites don’t always stick to the ear and head area of an animal, it’s a good idea to shampoo the coat to keep it “mite free”. A great way to complete the wash is with a final rinse of yellow dock tea and water.

Shampoo for mite control – Mites can travel to other areas of the animal’s skin – in fact, all the way down to the tail. Using an infusion of yellow dock tea with water as a final rinse to “mite proof” the coat after bathing, is another effective way to keep him “mite free”.

So don’t worry if you can’t always get to the vet for an ear mite problem.
