Stop A Dog Biting
It is important to know how to stop dog biting since you won’t want the dog to be biting anyone, including your kids or any house guests who may come over. It doesn’t matter if your dog is a young puppy, an older dog you just adopted or even a family pet you’ve had for several years, if the dog has a biting probably you need to stop your dog from biting as soon as possible.
If you don’t teach your dog to stop biting you may run into a situation where it bites a guess or a stranger, when this happens there’s a good chance that your dog will have to be put down. That makes it tantamount that every dog owner learn how to stop dog biting so that problems don’t happen.
Here are a number of tips to get started:
There are a variety of training methods you can try to help you stop your dog from biting, and each one is effective in its own way. One way to keep a dog from biting is to supply him with chew toys. This sounds simple enough, right? Well it is! This technique doesn’t even occur to many dog owners, but it works. Without a chew toy your dog, especially if it is a puppy, is going to look for other things to nip and gnaw on.
Additionally, you will want to ensure you start training in advance. Of course training is going to be a little more difficult if you’ve adopted a dog that is already fully grown, but it isn’t impossible to teach an old dog new tricks so don’t be afraid to start training your pet to stop biting as soon as possible. The earlier age you can begin to train your dog the better, however, and the easier it will be for your dog to learn what behavior is expected of it.
Another technique to try is making sure your puppy knows that it hurts when it bites you. Whenever the dog bites, proclaim “no!” or “ouch!” loudly, or you could even give out a loud yelp like your dog might. A yelp is exactly what your dog would do if another dog bit him too roughly while romping about. If you’re teaching her that she has hurt you being too rough then it follows that you may be able to teach her to be more gentle in the future.
If your puppy fails to react to your shouts or yelps of pain make sure to repeat them and even leave the room for a little while. This shows your dog that biting too hard results in the loss of his playmate. This will also show him how another puppy would react if he got too rough during playtime.
All of the aforementioned tips are excellent ways to stop dog biting and ensure that your dog is the perfectly behaved pet you’ve always wanted.
