Tips For Bringing Your Dog On A Family Road Trip
Are you planning on bringing the dog on your next family road trip? New surroundings and long trips can be stressful for dogs and cause excess excitability or other undesirable behaviors. Follow these tips to make the trip a successful one for the entire family.
1. Take a series of short trips with your dog to make sure there are no problems with motion sickness, excitability or other issues that need to be addressed before the trip. Talk to your vet if you have any concerns.
2. Pack at least 2 leashes in an easy to find location of the car. Your dog should be wearing a properly fitted collar and updated id tags throughout the entire trip.
3. Bring an updated copy of your dog’s shot records, including the latest rabies vaccination date. Also bring a recent photo of your dog, just in case you are separated.
4. Do not experiment with new foods or snacks on a long trip. Bring your dog’s regular food and stick as close to his normal feeding schedule as possible.
