You’re the proud new owner of your first Weimaraner and you want to teach it to do your bidding. You want your new Weimaraner to sit, to shake hands, or maybe being house trained is first on your list. Whatever happens to be on that wish list, if you are new to dog training, you should consider taking advantage of some of these training tips for Weimaraners. The very first tip is for you, the trainer, to enjoy yourself. Number two is that you are always consistent, and number three is that you make sure what you want the dog to do is obvious to the dog. Enjoy Yourself

The very first thing you need to remember when training a Weimaraner is that no matter what you’re trying to teach make sure you’re having fun. While there are several ways to start when training your dog, just make sure as you try each of them you do so with an upbeat, fun oriented attitude. If you are not enjoying yourself, then your dog won’t be having fun either, and probably won’t be paying attention to you as much as you hope. Training time is also getting to know you and bond with you time for dog and handler. You need to make sure that this is quality time. If you do that then you’ll get the best reward for your time in that your dog will behave just as you want.

Consistency Is Important

It’s important that your training efforts are always consistent. This is your second tip for Weimaraner training. You have to do the same thing to elicit the desired response from your dog every time, that’s consistency in training. Keep it up until the dog has solidly learned the behavior you are looking for. If you try one training metho9d and then switch to another your dog will get confused. You can’t expect good results if you aren’t consistent. The dog must understand what you are trying to get him to do, and he will only acquire this new behavior if you are repetitive and reward him every time he does things right.

Be Really Clear

This third tip might seem obvious. Be sure your Weimaraner knows what you expect him to do. If your dog is confused and doesn’t really know what it is you are trying to get him to do he won’t be able to perform the way you want him to. Both you and your dog may be very frustrated. Obviously you’re upset because your dog isn’t doing what you want, but the dog also suffers here because he really does want to make you happy, but he doesn’t know what it is you want and why you’re unhappy with him. The best thing to do is make sure you show the dog exactly what you want it to do. If you want him to shake hands put his paw in your hand and give him the command. Then continue repeating this as often as you possible can.
